ANNUAL CONFERENCE

The most significant activity of the Caribbean Cardiac Society is the staging of the Annual Caribbean Cardiology Conference. This conference represents the most ideal opportunity for Caribbean Cardiologists, Surgeons and Physicians with an interest in Cardiology to gather and discuss the latest advances in the field. The conference is held each July in a different Caribbean territory and has also been hosted twice in Miami, Florida, USA.

The Annual Conference has evolved from its humble beginnings of a one-day distance mode meeting in 1986 into a four day meeting with an attendance of 200 – 250 persons from over 18 Caribbean territories, the USA, Canada and the United Kingdom. Each conference features the very best of the region’s presenters as well as world renowned speakers such as Professor Augustus Grant, Professor of Medicine, Duke University, USA, Professor Kim Fox, Professor of Clinical Cardiology, Royal Brompton Hospital, UK and and Professor Garcia Palmieri, Board Member, InterAmerican College of Physicians and Surgeons, USA.

Two significant highlights of the yearly meeting are The Annual Cardiology Lecture and the Annual Cardiac Surgery Lecture. Most recently these were delivered by Dr. Renzo Cecere, Associate Professor of Surgery, McGill University, Canada and Dr. Mathew Budoff, Associate Professor of Medicine, UCLA, USA.

The Society also recognizes the importance of Allied Health Professionals to the delivery of cardiac care in the Caribbean and as such, has included in past conferences, sessions specifically intended for the education and edification of this vital group.

The Society also takes the opportunity during the meeting to host its Annual Awards Banquet where individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the advancement of Cardiology in the region are honoured. Past honourees include Dr. Yves Donatien, Past President, College of Cardiology Martinique, Martinique and most recently Professor Charles Denbow, Professor of Medicine, University of the West Indies, Jamaica. The CCS Research Grant is also presented and reported on at the Awards Banquet.
