On Thursday January 21, 2010, on instructions from the CCS Executive, arrangements were made to make a US$3,000 contribution to the Red Cross' Haitian Relief Fund. The donation was presented to Ms. Yvonne Clarke, Director General of the Jamaica Red Cross by Prof. Howard Spencer, Past President of the CCS on behalf of the Treasurer, Dr. Clarence McGaw who is currently out of the country. Ms. Clarke expressed her appreciation and stressed that the Red Cross was committed to not only relief for Haiti in the short term but also to its long term recovery.
We know that there are members who have expressed a willingness to assist by staffing medical missions. At this time, it seems Haiti's damaged infrastructure is unable to support all those who would wish to volounteer. However those who are interested in participating in medical missions please submit your name and specialty to the CCS Secretariat or to your local Red Cross and we will contact you once those missions are possible.
We also encourage you to continue supporting the on-going relief efforts through your local Red Cross and Salvation Army.
