The Caribbean Cardiac Society (CCS) recently presented two of the region’s most respected Cardiologists with awards recognizing their outstanding contributions to the advancement of cardiac care in the region. The awards were presented to Dr. Richard Ishmael of Barbados and Dr. Ronald Henry of Trinidad and Tobago at the Society’s Annual Awards Banquet held at the Hilton, Barbados.
Dr. Ronald Henry is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Cardiology and is a Fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography. He is a longstanding member of the Caribbean Cardiac Society and serves as Chair of the Society’s Interventional Committee.
CCS President, Dr. Martin Didier, in reading the citation to Dr. Henry praised his commitment to sharing “his knowledge and experience in the training of Physicians and Nurses in Cardiology and the development of Cardiovascular Centers of Excellence throughout the Caribbean.” Dr. Henry is credited as a pioneer in Cardiology in Trinidad and Tobago, being responsible for many “firsts” including the first coronary angiogram and the first biventricular pacemaker implantation.
Dr. Didier also read the citation to Dr. Richard Ishmael, expressing appreciation for his “selfless dedication to providing cardiac care to the people of the Eastern Caribbean and Barbados.” Dr. Ishmael was joined at the banquet by his two sons who are both physicians as well.
The Awards banquet which was held during the Society’s 24th Annual Conference also saw plaques of appreciation being presented to all former President’s of the Society. Among those accepting Presidential awards were Prof. Trevor Hassell of Barbados and Dr. Roy Tilluckdharry of Trinidad and Tobago.
The Caribbean Cardiac Society is a regional organization made up of Cardiologists, Surgeons, Nurses and Technologists who share the goal of advancing knowledge of diseases of the heart and circulation in the Caribbean.
