On Tuesday evening our sister nation, Haiti was rocked by the most devastating earthquake to affect the region in the last 200 years. The number of people killed, injured and displaced by this tragic event is staggering. At this time our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Haiti and also with their loved ones all around the world. We are of course extremely concerned for the welfare of our Haitian members and will be working to get word on their welfare.
The Caribbean Cardiac Society would like to encourage our members, associate members, affiliates and friends to do all they can to lend their support to the ongoing relief efforts. Please make contact with your local Red Cross and Salvation Army offices and find out how you can help. We know that currently the relief efforts are focused on search and rescue and that the aid organizations on the ground have highlighted food, water and medical supplies as being top priorities.
At times such as these it is imperative that we answer the call to be our brother's and sister's keepers.
